Junior Coaches can:
Demonstrate drills and support skill development (skating, stabbing, shooting)
Help plan and run fun, age-appropriate activities
Encourage and mentor younger players
Be positive role models on and off the ice
Contribute to practice planning and feedback
Junior Coaches may be included on the bench during games — this is up to the Head Coach’s discretion. Coaches are encouraged to communicate clearly about expectations and opportunities.
All communications must follow the Rule of 2
Head Coaches will communicate arrival times, roles, and plans
Any direct communication with a Junior Coach must include their parent/guardian
Junior Coaches must be registered in RAMP to appear on game sheets and receive team communications
Their email addresses will not be shared publicly
All hours can count toward high school community service requirements
Coaches are encouraged to support players by signing off hours when requested
Junior Coaches are not required to attend out-of-town tournaments
If they are already attending with their own team or family, they may volunteer as available
Junior Coaches are not considered non-parent coaches for financial or liability purposes
Junior Coaches are minors and do not count as NCCP-certified adults
Two screened, NCCP-trained adults must be present during all athlete interactions
One-on-one situations must be avoided, except in emergencies
Email and text communications must always include a second adult or the parent/guardian
This is a great opportunity to:
Build leadership and communication skills
Gain coaching and mentoring experience
Connect with teammates and coaches in a new way
Give back to the sport and community
We’re looking forward to seeing many of you take on this exciting new role!
