Introduction

  • All coaches regardless of being a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach requrie the same training.
    ?

  • All questions and concerns regarding Coach/Trainer/Manager requirements may be directed to the Vice-President 

  • To register for clinics you must have an NCCP #.  

    • This is where you will find the listing for free MED (Making Ethical Decisions) workshops and registration instructions for MED.  

    • Local CSI, CI clinics  are listed here, Registration is done on the the RC - Ringette Canada- website

  • ERRA Coaching offers information on clinics specific to this region.

  • Register for clinics on the Ringette Canada  website.

  • MAKING HEADWAY - NEW for 2017/18 !! - This year all Coaches & Trainers (also recommended for Managers) will need to complete a concussion awareness course. Read the ORA Memo HERE

  NOTES:

  • Community Sport Initiation (CSI) is a 1 day clinic - for U12 Regional, Novice, Bunnies

  • Competition Introduction (CI) is a 2 day clinic - For U12 Provincial and above (Regional & Provincial teams)

  • Making Headway is on the Coach.ca site - it is an online module which should take 1 hour. It is free until December 31st 2017.  It is mandatory for all coaches and trainers; it is recommended but not mandatory for managers

  • Making Ethical Decisions (MED) clinics - is manadatory for all Coaches
    1st clinic is now available - - Monday, November 13 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM at Tom Brown Arena upstairs. Click here to register. Please note that the fee is $40 (even though Eventbrite says it is free) but that cost will be paid directly by your association.

    • If you have taken MED EVER - any other sport - you are exempt from having to take this. You still must complete the exam.

    • MED consists of a mandatory evening classroom session (2 to 3 hours).  Once that is complete you must complete the online exam at coach.ca

    • You may not challenge and proceed directly to the exam, this will not be recognized by Ringette Canada

  • If you are coaching a provincial AA team and require on ice evaluation to become CI Certified (U14 and above AA Teams), follow the instructions on the ORA website under coaching

 

Coach Training Requirements 

NEW COACHES

All coaches regardless of being a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach requrie the same training.
The first stop for new coaches is to go to coach.ca, get a coaching number and sign up for Coach Initiation.

  • The 2nd stop for new coaches is to complete the mandatory online 1 hour "coach initiation in sport". 

    • The 'Coach Initiation in Sport' is required by all new ringette coaches.  You will be charged $15

    • To access Coach Initiation in Sport follow this link http://www.coach.ca/coach-initiation-in-sport-s17259. This page will provide you with details on how to go to “The Locker” to sign up for the course.

    • Once you have completed the initiation online course, log it to your locker at coach.ca 

  • 3rd step - find out what training you need.  ORA has created 'Coaching Pathways' - an easy to use checklist of what you need. One exists for every age/level.

  • 4th step - navigate to Ringette Canada - Coaching, log in and register for the desired clinic in your area (any clinic offered in the Ottawa Area). If you have issues registering or questions, contact your GCRA coaching coordinator.  

  • 5th step attend all required training and ensure that it is logged to your transcript on coach.ca

  • Advise your coach/manager/volunteer coordinator that you are complete


ALL COACHES

**Please note that there have been many issues existing coaches registering for new clinics. If you have any issues please contact the CRRA President. Do not contact Don Grant directly.****

  • The 'Coach Initiation in Sport' is required by all new ringette coaches ONLY.  If you have coached before this DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU.  If you cannot register for a clinic and are not a new coach you fall into the 'having issues registering' - see note immediatly above!

  • MAKING HEADWAY - NEW for 2017/18 !! - This year all coaches will need to complete a concussion awareness course. 

    •  To start go to http://www.coach.ca/-p153487 and when you go to choose modules, select Making Headway in Sport.  

    • You will earn 5 PDU's for this.

  • Making Ethical Decisions module (MED) - Coaches who have completed the Ringette CI-1 or CSI course prior to 2015 or other sport MED course already have this component but are still required to take the MED examination.

  • CI Trained needed for all U14, U16, U19 B, C and Rec. Level Coaches by January 2019

    • ?Regional coaches who are CSI Trained now will be required to be CI Trained by January 8, 2019.

  • ?Professional Development is now required for maintenance of qualification.  Please read up on this on our Professional development webpage.  We will add links for any free / interesting clinics on that page.

  • ORA has created 'Coaching Pathways' - an easy to use checklist of what you need. One exists for every age/level.

  • All coaches should visit this link for Ringette Canada - which offers a tool to help coaches determine what level of training is required based on the level being coached.
     

Clinic DATES and Deadlines:

  • Intro to Coaching, CI and CSI coaching courses, Making heamust be completed by January 8, 2018. 

  • All coaches must complete the Making Ethical Decisions Clinic by January 31, 2018.

  • All coaches must complete the applicable Making Ethical Decisions Evaluation on the NCCP website by January 31, 2018.

  • Sunday, October 22, 2017 - hosted by Ottawa (Tom Brown Arena)

  • Sunday, October 29, 2017 - hosted by West Ottawa (Richmond Arena)

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017 - hosted by GCRA (Ray Friel Recreation Complex)

CI Clinics for 2017 (as of September)

  • Saturday, September 30 to Sunday, October 1, 2017 - hosted by Nepean (Minto Barrhaven and Nepean Sportsplex)

  • Saturday, October 22 to Sunday, October 23, 2017 - hosted by GCRA (Ray Friel Recreation Complex)

  • Saturday, November 25 to Sunday, November 26, 2017 - hosted by CORA (Saturday at JA Dulude Arena, Sunday at Tom Brown Arena)

 

Expensing your fees

Training related expenses will be refunded on successful completion of training for volunteers actively participating on a team, in the role for which they are taking training.  For example, if you are coaching regional U12 we will reimburse the associated training expenses.  If you wish to take a CI clinic you will have to cover this expense, but if you coach in following years at this level we will reimburse you.

  • Coach Initiation will be refunded ($15) 

  • Manager Training ($25) will be refunded

  • All training for CI, CSI is typically free to you and the association is billed for your participation.  In the event the hosting association charges you, you will be refunded if you meet the criteria stipulated above

  • Making Headway is free until December 31st 2017, it is expected that you take it free of charge in 2017  

  • SFA/CPRC - if you do not already have this designation, you may complete training at an authorized provider, and will be reimbursed (1 trainer per team).  Criteria are explained in the ORA Operating manual - Coaching Administration. Contact your coaching coordinator for details

  • CI Certification - on ice evaluation. You will be charged; once we can verify successful completion we will reimburse you.  Submit request for refund to your coaching coordinator.
     

Other Bench Staff Requirements

Trainers 

  • Must have First Aid Certification. 

  • Must have Making Headway NEW for 2017/18

    • If you do not have an NCCP number, start by getting one at Coach.ca, then register for this module

    • If you have an NCCP # already, go to http://www.coach.ca/-p153487 and when you go to choose modules, select Making Headway in Sport.  

  • As of fall 2017 Trainers no longer are required to take the Coach Training 

  • All teams U9 to U19 must have at least one Bench Staff member who has First Aid Certification.  It is highly recommended that this person be present at all games and team activities. Note that this person does not have to have the title of ‘Trainer’; it can be one of the coaches.

  • There can only be one trainer on the bench at one time at any level

Trainer Responsibilities:
First Aid, safety, the team’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP), the completion of Risk Management and Safety Incident/Accident Reports (Form M-F-13) when necessary, and other duties as assigned.

 

Managers 

  • Must complete the Manager Certification Program, available online on the Ringette Canada website.  

  • CRRA will reimburse this cost upon successful completion. Manager ID and receipt to be sent to the CRRA President. 

  • Making Headway - Not mandatory but highly recommended by ORA -  NEW for 2017/18

    • If you do not have an NCCP number, start by getting one at Coach.ca, then register for this module

    • If you have an NCCP # already, go to http://www.coach.ca/-p153487 and when you go to choose modules, select Making Headway in Sport.

  • Any coach requiring a MED workshop has the option of taking it through any Coaches Association of Ontario workshop.  Please communicate your intent with your volunteer coordinator prior to registering for one of these courses to ensure you will be able to get reimbursed.  It is recommended to leverage any MED clinics/workshops offered through your home association, ERRA or ORA before using this option.
